How this converter works

Pick a category, choose the unit you're converting from and the unit you want, then enter a value. For most categories we multiply your value by a fixed conversion factor for the "from" unit to get a common base unit (metres, kilograms, litres, square metres, metres per second, bytes, joules, seconds or pascals), then divide by the factor for the "to" unit. Two categories are different. Temperature scales (Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin) don't share a common zero, so we convert via formulas: Fahrenheit = Celsius × 9/5 + 32, Kelvin = Celsius + 273.15. Fuel economy is reciprocal, mpg and km/l measure efficiency (higher is better) while l/100km measures consumption (lower is better), so we convert through litres-per-100km. UK (imperial) volume units are used throughout, a UK pint (568.261ml) and UK gallon (4.54609l) are both larger than their US equivalents, and both UK and US mpg are offered for fuel economy.
