Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 July 2026
Overview
CalcBritain (“we”, “us”, “our”) provides free UK tax and financial calculators at calcbritain.com. We take privacy seriously. This policy explains what data we collect (very little), why, and your rights under UK GDPR.
Short version: we do not have accounts, we do not collect personal data, and we do not use advertising. The only cookies we ever set are a cookie that remembers your cookie choice, and — only if you accept — Google Analytics. You can use every calculator without identifying yourself.
What we collect and why
1. Analytics (Google Analytics 4) — only with your consent
To understand how many people visit the site and which calculators are used, we use Google Analytics 4 (GA4), a service provided by Google. We run it with Google Consent Mode v2: analytics are denied by default, so no analytics cookie is set and no analytics data is sent until you choose “Accept all” on the cookie banner. If you decline, nothing is collected.
If you accept, GA4 may record (per page view or calculation):
- Pages viewed and which calculators you use (e.g. a “calculate” event with the calculator name)
- Referrer URL (the site you came from)
- Approximate location (country/region) derived from your IP address — GA4 does not store your full IP
- Device, browser and operating system type
We do not use Google Analytics for advertising — all Google advertising signals (ad storage and personalisation) are kept permanently denied. The figures you type into a calculator are never included. Google processes this data as described in Google's Privacy Policy. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time (see “Cookies” below).
2. Analytics cookies (Google Analytics 4)
When you accept, we load Google Analytics 4 to see which calculators are used and how the site performs. Before you choose — and if you reject — Google's Consent Mode blocks analytics cookies (such as _ga and _ga_*) entirely; nothing is set without your permission. Your choice itself is remembered for 1 year in a first-party cookie named cb-consent, with a backup copy in your browser's local storage. We never load advertising or tracking cookies.
You can change your choice at any time: see the Cookies section below, or use the button here to reset your choice and see the banner again:
3. Calculator inputs
All calculations run locally in your browser using JavaScript. The figures you enter (salary, property value, pension contributions, etc.) are never transmitted to our servers. We never see them, never store them, and never share them.
Cookies
We keep cookies to an absolute minimum and never use advertising or ad-network trackers. We set:
- cb-consent (strictly necessary, 1 year) — a first-party cookie that remembers whether you accepted or rejected analytics cookies, so we don't ask you again on every visit. This one is set regardless of your choice — it is required to remember the choice itself.
- Google Analytics cookies (e.g.
_ga,_ga_*) — set only if you click “Accept all” on the cookie banner. Before you choose, and if you click “Reject”, these cookies are blocked entirely by Google's Consent Mode.
We never use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party social-media cookies of any kind.
You can change your choice at any time:
Lawful basis for processing (UK GDPR)
Google Analytics is not analytics-cookie-free, so under PECR Regulation 6 it requires your consent (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR) before we set any GA4 cookie or send any analytics hit. We ask via the cookie banner on your first visit; nothing loads until you accept, and you can withdraw consent at any time (see “Cookies” above).
Data retention
- Cookie consent choice (cb-consent): retained for up to 1 year, or until you clear it via “Manage cookie preferences” or your browser settings.
- Google Analytics data: only collected if you accept; retained per Google's default GA4 retention period. See Google's Privacy Policy.
- Calculator inputs: never stored — they exist only in your browser session.
- Contact emails: if you email us, we retain correspondence only as long as necessary to resolve your query, and no longer than 2 years.
Third parties
| Party | Purpose | Data shared | Privacy policy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google Analytics 4 (only with consent) | Site analytics — which calculators are used and how the site performs | Pages viewed, approximate location, device/browser type — never sent unless you accept the cookie banner | policies.google.com/privacy |
We do not share data with advertising networks, data brokers, social media platforms, or any other third parties.
Your rights under UK GDPR
To the extent that we process any personal data about you (which is very limited), you have the following rights:
- Right of access: to request a copy of personal data we hold about you.
- Right to erasure: to ask us to delete personal data we hold about you.
- Right to object: to object to processing based on legitimate interests.
- Right to data portability: to receive data in a machine-readable format.
- Right to lodge a complaint: with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.
Google Analytics is only used with your consent and in aggregate — it is not linked to your identity, so we generally cannot single out which records relate to you. You can withdraw analytics consent at any time via “Manage cookie preferences”.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when our data practices change. Material changes will be noted at the top of this page with an updated date.
