How fencing cost is estimated
Each fence type has a supply-and-fit rate per linear metre that already includes posts, concrete footings and labour — panel fencing is the cheapest and quickest to install, feather-edge sits in the middle, and closeboard (the most durable, built panel-by-panel on site) costs the most. Gravel boards run along the base of the fence, keeping timber off the soil to reduce rot, and are priced as an optional extra per metre. Gates are priced individually rather than by length, since they need their own posts and hardware. Because ground conditions, access for materials and regional labour rates all vary, we show a ±15% range around the central estimate — get a few quotes from local fencing contractors before committing to a project.
