Bulk Buying Savings Calculator

Compare a small pack against a bulk pack of the same item and see the real annual saving at your own usage rate — including the waste warning that catches out most "buy in bulk" decisions.

Estimate only. Estimates based on the prices, quantities and usage you enter — actual prices and your real usage may vary. Always check the shelf's own per-unit price label, which reflects live in-store pricing.

Why bulk buying doesn't always save money

On paper, a bulk pack almost always has a lower price per unit than a small pack of the same item — that's how volume pricing works. But that saving is only real if you actually use everything you bought. For perishable items (fresh food, opened toiletries, some medicines), buying more than you can get through before it spoils means part of what you paid for ends up in the bin. This calculator compares the two packs' sticker unit prices first, then checks your usage rate against the shelf life you enter: if a bulk pack would spoil before you'd have used it all, it recomputes the real annual cost using only the portion you can actually use — which can turn a headline saving into a genuine loss.
