Things to weigh up
- If you split a membership with family or another household, check the scheme's rules first — most warehouse clubs only allow one named additional cardholder per membership.
- A £15 online-only option exists at some warehouse clubs if you never plan to shop in person — check whether it covers the categories you actually want.
- Bulk buying only saves money if you use what you buy — food waste and impulse 'bargains' you didn't need can easily wipe out the saving.
- Combine this with a fuel-saving add-on (see our Costco Fuel Savings calculator) if the warehouse also has a filling station on your route.
How this is worked out
We apply your entered percentage saving to your annual eligible spend to get the shopping saving, add any fuel-saving add-on you enter, and subtract the membership fee to leave your net saving (or loss). The break-even figure shows how much you'd need to spend a year on eligible items — on top of any fuel add-on — just to cover the fee, before you're saving anything at all.
