How ideal weight is calculated

There's no single 'correct' ideal weight — this calculator shows three long-established clinical formulas side by side, plus the NHS healthy BMI range, so you can see the spread. The Devine formula (1974) is the most widely used in clinical dosing; the Robinson (1983) and Miller (1983) formulas are later refinements. All three start from a base weight for 5 feet of height and add a fixed amount per inch above that, with separate figures for men and women. None of them account for muscle mass, frame size, bone density or individual body composition — a muscular or large-framed person may sit well outside these ranges and still be perfectly healthy. Treat the result as a general guide, not a target you must hit, and speak to your GP or a registered dietitian about what's right for you.
