How BMI is calculated

BMI divides your weight in kilograms by the square of your height in metres (kg/m²). For most adults, a BMI of 18.5–24.9 is a healthy weight, 25–29.9 is overweight, and 30 or above is obese. It's a useful screening tool but doesn't measure body fat directly — very muscular people can have a high BMI while still being healthy, so treat it as a general guide and talk to your GP about your individual health.
