How flooring cost is estimated
The area to cover is your room's floor area plus a wastage allowance — extra material lost to cuts, pattern-matching and plank/tile direction, typically around 10% for a simple rectangular room. Total cost combines the supply price of the flooring itself, fitting labour, and underlay where applicable — laminate, LVT, engineered wood and solid wood all sit on an underlay, but tile is fixed directly to a prepared subfloor so no underlay is needed. Solid wood and tile generally cost more to fit than laminate or LVT because they take longer and often need more subfloor preparation. For an exact price, measure carefully and get a few quotes — product and fitting rates vary significantly by retailer, region and the condition of your existing subfloor.
