EV Charging Cost Calculator

Work out how much it costs to charge your electric car — per full charge, per journey and per mile — and compare typical home vs public rapid charging prices.

Estimate only. EV charging cost figures are estimates based on the rate, battery size and efficiency you enter — actual costs vary by energy supplier, charge point network, charging speed and losses. Source (typical UK rates): Zap-Map EV charging price index.

How EV charging cost is calculated

The cost of a full charge is your battery's usable capacity in kWh, multiplied by the percentage you're charging to, multiplied by your electricity rate in pence per kWh. The cost of a journey is the distance divided by your car's efficiency (miles per kWh) — that tells you how many kWh the trip uses — multiplied by the same rate. Home charging on a standard or off-peak tariff is typically far cheaper than public rapid or ultra-rapid charging, so it's worth comparing both before a long trip.
