Electricity Cost Calculator
Work out what it really costs to run a single appliance — from a kettle to a tumble dryer — per day, week, month and year, based on its power draw and your electricity unit rate.
Estimate only. This is an estimate — energy prices change often, verify with your supplier/Ofgem.
How appliance running cost is calculated
First we convert the appliance's power draw from watts to kilowatts (÷ 1000), then multiply by the hours it runs each day to get kWh per day. Multiplying kWh per day by your electricity unit rate (in pence per kWh) gives the cost per day; multiplying that by the days per week, then by 52 weeks, gives the cost per year. The unit rate is set by the Ofgem energy price cap for most households on a standard variable tariff, and it changes every quarter — check your latest bill or the current price cap for an exact figure.
