Real quotes commonly vary by this much or more between insurers for the same driver and car — this range is here to show how rough a single-number estimate is.

How this indicative estimate is calculated
This calculator starts from a broadly representative average UK premium and adjusts it using five simplified factors: your age band (17-20 year-olds are the highest-risk group and pay the most, core working-age drivers pay the least, and risk ticks up again from 75), your car's insurance group (1 to 50 — a higher group generally means a pricier or more powerful car that costs more to repair or is more attractive to thieves), where you live (rural areas are cheapest, cities are most expensive due to higher theft and claims rates), how many miles you drive a year (more time on the road means more exposure to claims), and your no-claims discount (up to 60% off for five or more claim-free years). Because real insurers use dozens of other factors — your specific postcode, claims history, occupation, vehicle security, named drivers and level of cover among them — this estimate is deliberately shown with a wide ±35% range either side of the headline number. Treat it as a starting point for budgeting, not a price you'll actually be offered.
